This tall Black Cottonwood is claimed to be the tallest know of that species. There
is a plaque to that effect expressing that claim. I stumbled on it one day when exploring
a back road where I also came upon, and took, a ferry across the Willamette. A real
surprise to find an operating ferry! It was operated by one man and would hold only a few cars, mine the only one that time. This was apparently the site of a Methodist Mission that was along the Willamette at one time.
