Wallowa Lake is a perfect morainal lake having been formed about 9 million years ago by
a glacier. It is about 5 miles long and 1 mile wide. It is a wonderful place to paint as the
lake is situated in high mountains that appear to come straight down to the Lake. There
is a lodge, as well as other more modern places, in which to stay. The lodge was built
in 1923. I am always fascinated with the lodges that were built early in our history and
that people managed to get to and enjoy even though roads were not that good then.
This painting was done with all that history in mind and the evening light seemed to add
to a feeling of mystery.
