I believe that this is part of an old road cut that has been partially washed out. The old
road East from Glide to Diamond Lake, Oregon, was at one time above the present road and this appears to be part of it. I found this scene on an early morning walk while the
fog was still wrapped around everything that was any distance away. I am always intrigued
by old roads and wonder what they could tell us of their part in history. When I was very young, possibly 12, my parents drove on this road one Sunday to show my brother and I
the North Umpqua area. The road was one lane, unpaved, and with only infrequent turn
outs where two cars could pass each other.
