I was born in, or near, Drain Oregon, and grew up in a remote sawmill camp owned by my father and his partner.  I’m sure this is where I grew to love nature and the landscape so much as we were in a beautiful setting of steep hills and forest.  There were wild flowers in abundance, ferns and moss, along with the quiet and starry nights of a place without electricity.
Art education began at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas, where I  moved when 20.  After coming back to Oregon I attended Umpqua Community College and the University of Oregon and finished with a Masters Degree in Fine Art.  Along the way I have taught painting, printmaking, and pursued my own art with diligence and perseverance.  I began showing my work in Portland Oregon in 1976 and still do.  I have been in many group and solo shows and am fortunate enough to be in a multitude of corporate and private collections.

Artist's Statement.......

My ambition is to create a body of work that speaks of this Northwest area and  stands the test of time.  I try very hard to be honest in my painting and not follow current fads or popular twists of visual truth.  I like brushwork to show but not to become more important than the painting itself.  By the same token I  like there to be an abstract design, but it must not overpower the landscape.  I do alter color as needed to express what I am trying say, but it is always within the realm of reality.
